Schroeder, Sepulveda Perform Well at USA Cross Country Championships
February 10, 2007 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Cowgirl head coach Rene Sepulveda and freshman Leah Schroeder both ran solid races Saturday at the USA Cross Country Championships at Flatirons Golf Club.
Sepulveda, in his fourth year at OSU, ran third in the Master's race with a time of 26:51. Dennis Simonaitis, from Draper, Utah, took the top honors with a time of 26:28.
“It was fun to compete against some of the best runners in the country who are my age." "It was a great experience for us to compete at altitude."
Schroeder also ran well as she finished 27th in the Junior's race with a time of 24:08. It was the first time that she competed since Nov. 11, 2006 when she finished 57th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. 15-year-old Jordan Hasay, who is a member of the San Luis Distance Club, captured the title in a time of 21:44.
“(Leah) Schroeder gained great experience,” Sepulveda said. “Hopefully, her performance today will give her motivation to prepare for the upcoming cross country season as she is redshirting both track seasons this year.”
