Coach Gundy Insight Bowl News Conference

Head Coach Mike Gundy
On facing Indiana in the 2007 Insight Bowl
“Obviously, we're very excited to be playing in the Insight Bowl in Tempe. Our players found out during the middle of practice. We called (the players) up and made the announcement. We are excited about playing Indiana. (Indiana head coach Bill) Lynch and his team have had a great year. We think it will be a terrific matchup. We've heard great things about the Insight Bowl and it is a reward for our players. Our seniors have worked hard and they have led this team. Anytime you have an opportunity to extend (your season) and play in a bowl game, go somewhere and spend a week together, it is a lot of fun: not just for the players, but for the coaches, their families, and the Oklahoma State family. I'm sure we'll have a great following out in Tempe. Obviously, Oklahoma State is a hot commodity when they start picking bowls, because of the great following that we have always had.
“I know that the bowl representatives are very excited to have Oklahoma State because of the following that we have had in the past. Myself, the staff, and the administration would like to thank the Oklahoma State people for what they have done in the past to put us in the position to be in another terrific bowl. We are very excited about it. We had practice today as I said earlier. We had a very enthusiastic practice. We'll have 14 more. In fact, we have three more that are open to the media and the public. We would encourage the Oklahoma State people that want to be a part of it to come out and watch practice in the next week or so as we prepare to play in the Insight Bowl against Indiana.”
On Indiana reaching a bowl after the death of their head coach last offseason
“I saw just a little bit of Coach Hoeppner's wife after the last game against Purdue where she was really excited and emotional because of the victory that put them in the bowl. I was glad to see that because that is really what it is all about. Their team has obviously come a long way. When you haven't been to a bowl in years, I'm sure they feel good about themselves. That is a great accomplishment and I'm sure their team will be very excited to be there and will be very well prepared and play hard. I've been on that side of it, so I know they will be excited about it.”
On matching up with Indiana
“I think it is a good matchup. I don't know a lot about them. I was told they have a quarterback who is very athletic; a mobile quarterback who moves around. I was told they had a very good wide receiver that is, somebody said, 6'7''. We'll have a tape exchange tomorrow, I'm sure. It won't take long so by the afternoon, we'll know a lot more about them. Our staff is going to be here tomorrow and tomorrow night and not go back out recruiting until Tuesday so we will get an opportunity to watch a number of their games and get a feel for them and the direction that we want to go.”
