Catching Up With Richetti Jones
December 28, 2007 | Cowboy Football
TEMPE, Ariz. Â After Thursday's practice at Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, okstate.com caught up with Cowboy freshman defensive end Richetti Jones to see how things were going for the prep star during his redshirt year at Oklahoma State. Here's what the Dallas native had to say:
Regarding how his redshirt year is going:
“It's going great. I've had a whole year to develop my body. I've gotten faster and I've gotten bigger and now it's just a matter of getting on the field and doing what I know how to do.”
Regarding his biggest improvement since coming to OSU:
“The biggest improvement I've noticed is just handling my business and not having to rely on anyone. My mom's not here. My dad's not here, so the biggest thing I've learned and improved is taking care of my business and not needing to have anyone tell me what to do because I'm learning to do it myself.”
Regarding his role as a scout team player:
“I just do what I'm told. Most of the time, I work with Russell Okung. He watches film and tells me to simulate what they do. Sometimes he'll tell me to go inside and rush out hard or tell me what the opponent's favorite move is and tell me to do it to him all week, so that's usually what I do. Every week, I have different moves to do depending on who we play against. I'll do whatever helps our guys get ready for the game.”
Regarding what he is most proud of this year:
“Just finishing really. In college, a lot of freshman athletes when they first step on campus, they don't make it past the first semester or the first year. I'm mostly proud of just getting through it.”
Regarding his approach this year:
“I know that my time on the field is coming soon but my role now is to help our offense get ready for opponents. I'm going to do everything I can to help this team however I can. I'm excited for spring ball because that will be my chance to really show what I can do.”
Regarding his physical development:
“When I came in, I was about 6-3 ½ and about 235 pounds. Now I'm up to around 249 pounds. Really the biggest difference I've noticed is in my strength. I can squat way more and I can bench way more now than when I came in. We haven't maxed out yet when we lift, so I'm not really sure what my max would be, but we have repped out and I can do so much more now. I'll know more about my max when we get into the offseason.”
