Mike Gundy Press Conference Highlights
November 05, 2007 | Cowboy Football
“Back at it as always. We're looking forward to this week playing a good football team, everybody's aware of that. They're playing with a lot of confidence and obviously have had a lot of success this year. They're moving the ball very well offensively. The quarterback is playing good football, the wide receivers are doing a nice job, they mix it around pretty well, several guys have a number of catches. Both running backs are making plays, those guys are doing a nice job.”
“Defensively they're only giving up 288 yards a game and 2.8 a rush, they're playing solid defense. It should be a great atmosphere for us on Saturday night “
On Zac Robinson's performance
“His arm gets fatigued more than a quarterback who doesn't run as much as he does, so because of that he's not been as accurate as he wanted to in the throwing game, but he's still playing pretty well. Zac has a long way to go. He's been good for our team because he's played hard and he's made some plays, but he still has a ways to go to develop to be what I'd call a really good quarterback at this level.”
On executing the screen game Saturday
“He (Zac) did a nice job of it and the backs did a good job. It was nice to see (Keith) Toston get back in there and make a couple good catches. If you run the football effective and you have a somewhat effective vertical passing game then you're going to be able to throw some screens and coach (Larry) Fedora does a nice job of calling those at the right time. He's had a good feel for when to call that when they put the pressure and Zac has done a nice job executing and we've had good blocking down field with our linemen.”
On play of Keith Toston
“It's always good to see a guy like Toston who has had some success early in his career and then had a difficult start this year and then because of the emergence of Kendall Hunter he hasn't got on the field that much. It's difficult to get three backs a lot of play. Keith has continued to work hard and have a good attitude. We've put him on several special teams and he's contributed for us. It's nice to see a guy continue to work hard and persevere through the tough times and then have some success.”
On bouncing back after Texas loss
“You have to rely on senior leadership. They're the ones that have to grab the young guys and get everybody back on track. As coaches, we can get up early and come in and start watching tape and formulate game plans and that's what we like to do, so we can get over it faster. So when the players come over tonight we have to get them back on track and as painful as it is, we still have to correct everything that happened in the game to make us better for the next week and then get back on track.”
“The one thing that will work to our advantage this week is that it's not everyday that you get to play a team ranked (so high) in the BCS. I would think our team would be excited about playing a team as highly regarded as they are and more importantly than that is we play for a reason, competition and the game. No matter what your situation is, we all have a responsibility to go out and play hard and have fun and give it our all on Saturday.”
