EL PASO, Texas--Oklahoma State's Trent Leon carded three consecutive sub-par rounds at the 33rd Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic this week to finish tied for third place at El Paso Country Club.
Leon posted a 9-under 204 total at the 6,837-yard, par-71 layout to finish tied with Florida State's Jonas Blixt and Arkansas' Andrew Landry. The trio came in three shots behind runner-up Aaron Goldberg of San Diego State and six shots behind tournament champion Webb Simpson of Wake Forest, who fired a 64 during his final round to pull away from the field.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Leon was extended an invitation into the 28-player field after earning honorable mention All-America honors last season. Leon opened play with a 69 and moved into contention with his 6-under 65 before closing with a 70 during his final round to lock up a top-five finish.
Each university that has a player participating in the tournament will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past 32 years, the Sun Bowl Association has donated over $600,000 to collegiate golf through this scholarship program.
