Eleven Cowboys Earn Academic All-Big 12 Accolades

IRVING, Texas — Oklahoma State had 11 players named to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team, including three first-team selections, it was announced by the league today.
Earning first-team honors for the Cowboys were senior safety Clint Coe (MBA), junior linebacker Seb Clements (Spanish and international business) and sophomore holder/punter Cole Reynolds (international business). Clements and Reynolds were also first-team honorees in 2006, while Coe was on the second team a year ago.
Eight Cowboys were recognized as second-team performers, with seven of those earning Academic All-Big 12 honors for the first time in their careers. Seniors Jon Morris (education), B.J. O'Connor (engineering), Nathan Peterson (management) and Dantrell Savage (education), along with junior Bobby Reid (education) and sophomores DeMarcus Conner (undecided) and Al'Darius Thompson (undecided) were each honored for the first time, while junior Zach Allen (hotel and restaurant administration) also made the second team after achieving first-team honors in 2006.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the football academic all-league team consisted of 92 first team members combined with 59 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
