STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Bedlam-rival Oklahoma Thursday night in front of a season-high 1,612 fans at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Siera Strawser and Yolanda Odenyo recorded second-half goals, and Erin Stigler notched her sixth shutout of the season as the 24th-ranked Cowgirls improved to 12-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in Big 12 Conference play.
“It was a typical Bedlam game, and (OU) played hard and well,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “We did a good job of matching their intensity, and in the second half we stepped up and played better.
“Siera (Strawser) and Yolanda (Odenyo) did what good players do, which is what they've been doing for us all season, and Stigler was excellent once again in goal.”
After a scoreless first half that saw OSU outshoot the visitors 10-3, the Cowgirls wasted little time getting on the scoreboard after intermission.
In the 49th minute, Strawser took a pass from Jamie Markaverich and booted it into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Four of Strawser's goals have come in conference play. Kasey Langdon also recorded an assist on the play, marking her team-leading eighth of the season.
Just three minutes later, OSU would strike again. This time it was Odenyo who blasted a shot into the far lower post to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage. The goal was also Odenyo's fifth of the season, moving her into a three-way tie with Strawser and Sasa Jackson for the team lead in goals.
Up by a pair of scores, Stigler withstood a rally by OU (6-10-3, 2-7-1) that saw the Sooners take nine second-half shots. The Cowgirls' junior goalkeeper recorded saves on six of those attempts, and by keeping the visitors off the scoreboard, she tied OSU's career-shutout mark with the 14th of her career.
With the win, OSU moved into a tie for fourth place in the Big 12 standings with Texas Tech. However, due to its loss to the Red Raiders, OSU cannot finish any higher than fifth in the conference. The league's final regular-season games will be played Friday, with those outcomes determining the Cowgirls' seeding for next week's Big 12 Championship in San Antonio.
