Cowgirls Earn Berth In Women's NCAA Soccer Championship Field

INDIANAPOLIS — For the second-consecutive season, Oklahoma State has earned an at-large berth in the Women's NCAA Soccer Championship. The Cowgirls will travel to Los Angeles for a first-round matchup against San Diego on Friday at 10 p.m. (CST).
Top-ranked and No. 1-national seed UCLA is one of 16 tournament hosts and will battle Cal State-Fullerton in other first-round action in Los Angeles. Should OSU defeat San Diego, who brings a 15-2-3 record into the tourney, the Cowgirls would face the UCLA-Cal State-Fullerton winner on Sunday.
The Cowgirls, who are 13-5-3 on the season and have three wins over teams ranked in the top 10, will be making their third NCAA appearance in the program's 12-year history.
“Going in, I thought we should be in (the tournament), but I'm not on the committee so I was a little nervous,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “San Diego is a great team from a strong conference, and they've been ranked all year. But it's a good challenge, and we're excited about it.
“We'd go anywhere and play anybody. We just want to go out there and give ourselves a chance.”
OSU is 1-1-1 in its three NCAA Tournament matches. In 2003, the Cowgirls lost by a 1-0 count to Auburn in Tallahassee, Fla. In the 2006 tourney, OSU got its first-ever NCAA win with a 2-0 triumph over UNC-Greensboro. In the second round, they battled host Clemson to a 0-0 draw, but the Tigers advanced to the Sweet 16 on penalty kicks, 4-2.
