Jaramillo Named To USA Baseball World Cup Team

DURHAM, N.C. Â Former Oklahoma State star Jason Jaramillo is one of 24 players who will represent the United States at the 2007 International BAseball Federation World Cup, it was announced Wednesday.
Jaramillo, a switch-hitting catcher, starred for the Cowboys from 2002-04 and was twice named an All-American and a first-team All-Big 12 performer before becoming a second-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2004. He spent 2007 playing for Ottawa, the Phillies' Triple A affiliate, where he hit .271 with six home runs and 56 RBIs in 118 games and was an International League All-Star.
USA Baseball's World Cup ballclub is made up of professional, non-25-man roster players of the 30 Major League Baseball-affiliated organizations. The team will battle for the IBAF World Cup title in Chinese Taipei from Nov. 6-18.
Sixteen countries will begin IBAF World Cup competition in two groups of eight teams, with the top four of each group advancing to the quarterfinals after seven days of round-robin play. Joining the U.S. in Group A will be Chinese Taipei, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Panama, South Africa and Spain, while Group B features Australia, Canada, Cuba, Germany, Korea, Netherlands, Thailand and Venezuela.
