Cowboy Golf Falls In First Round of Collegiate Match Play

Oklahoma State's men's golf team was one of four teams upset by a lower seeded squad on Sunday during the first round of the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship at Reynolds Plantation.

The fifth-seeded Cowboys fell to No. 12 Tennessee, 3-2, to drop into a consolation bracket matchup with 13th-seeded Minnesota. OSU's match with the Gophers was suspended due to darkness and will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

Tennessee got victories at the top two spots as Philip Pettitt knocked off Cowboy freshman Rickie Fowler, 4 and 3, while Chris Paisley defeated freshman Kevin Tway, 3 and 2, to secure the second team point for the Vols.

OSU got on the board with a 5-and-3 victory from sophomore Trent Whitekiller over Ben Spickard. Freshman Mark Johnson secured the squad's second point with his 3-and-2 win over David Holmes.

UT's Charlie Ford defeated junior Trent Leon, 3 and 2 for to help push the Vols into the second round.
