Cowgirl Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Chile Pepper Festival
October 14, 2007 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
The Oklahoma State women's cross country team finished fifth at the 6,000-meter Chile Pepper Festival Saturday. The Cowgirls had all five scorers finish in the top 60, despite missing their number two runner Marcela Lustigova.
Mihaela Susa continued her outstanding freshman season, pacing with Cowgirls with an 11th place finish in 21:16. She was followed by Tone Hjalmarsen (22:02), Lena Orn (22:12), Eva Tomankova (22:17) and Maria Trejo (22:27). The Cowgirls finished ahead of conference foes
“We didn't run good today, but we didn't run bad,” said Cowgirl head coach Rene Sepulveda. “It really made a difference not having Marcela today.”
The Cowgirls had a pleasant surprise with the return of sophomore Anissa Angelosante. Angelosante was one of the top Cowgirl runners as a freshmen two years ago, but was forced out last year due to injury and competed in her first competitive race in over a year on Saturday. She finished with a time 23:27, good for eighth on the squad.
“It was good to have Anissa back running and if she continues to progress she'll be in the mix to make the postseason roster,” said Sepulveda.
Sepulveda was quick to point out the performance of senior Maria Trejo as well. Trejo, who began her career on the Cowgirl squad as a walk-on, has made enormous strides during her time in
