January 09, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State safety Andre Sexton has been named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) freshman All-America first team, the organization has announced.
Sexton, a product of Cypress Falls High School in Houston, had previously been named the 2006 Big 12 defensive freshman of the year as selected by the league coaches, and he was a second-team academic all-Big 12 pick.
He is one of just four Big 12 players named to the FWAA freshman All-America team, joining Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, Baylor linebacker Joe Pawelek and Colorado punter Matthew DiLallo.
Sexton ended the 2006 season as Oklahoma State's leading tackler with 79 stops, along with a team-high 57 solo tackles. He had 8.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and forced three fumbles during the season. He had a season-high 15 tackles against Texas A&M and had 10 stops against Houston.
Sexton is one of four rookie Cowboys who received freshman All-America honors in 2006, joining linebackers Patrick Lavine and Chris Collins, and defensive back/kick returner Perrish Cox.
