Siksnelyte Leads Cowgirls on Day 1 of KSU Invitational

Senior Zivile Siksnelyte helped lead Oklahoma State's women's track and field team on the first day of the KSU Invitational by taking first-place in the long jump on Friday afternoon in Manhattan, Kan.

Siksnelyte won the long jump with a distance of 18-7.75 (5.78-meters), besting Kansas State's Obi Ikwuakor who finished second with a jump of 17-11.50 (5.47-meters).

“It felt good to finally get back into competition as we were off for nearly a month,” assistant coach John Baumann said. “We had a lot of good performances today, but we still have a long way to go.”

OSU also claimed two other top-10 finishers in the event - sophomores Baiba Blumbaha (fourth-place) and Mateja Posavec (sixth-place). Blumbaha jumped a season best distance of 17-9 (5.41-meters), while Posavec jumped 16-7.75 (5.07-meters).

Junior Deleanor Kirkpatrick was impressive in her season debut as she finished fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 53-9.75 (16.40-meters). The Cowgirls then got a solid outing from sophomore Merritt Dietz as she claimed her second top-10 finish of the season with a toss of 44-2.50 (13.47-meters). Freshman Julie Rader finished one spot outside the top-10 with a throw of 37-8 (11.48-meters).

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Tihana Sarac finished sixth with a time of 27.23.

Oklahoma State will continue action at the final day of the KSU Invitational on Saturday at 1 p.m.
