Mach, Mangini Named Preseason All-Americans
January 03, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
Mach, the 2006 Big 12 Conference Co-Player of the Year, was selected to the first-team at second base, while Mangini, a transfer from North Carolina State, is a second-team choice at third base. The teams were chosen by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
After playing third base as a junior, Mach will make the transition to second as a senior to make way for Mangini to play at the hot corner. Mach hit .364 with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs for the Cowboys last season. Mangini starred for N.C. State in 2006, hitting .343 with seven homers and 60 RBIs. He followed that by capturing the Cape Cod League batting title over the summer. Mangini will be a junior for the Cowboys in 2007.
Both Mach and Mangini, as well as OSU junior outfielder Corey Brown, have also been named to the preseason Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The Wallace Award is given annually to the nation's top college baseball player.
Oklahoma State is coming off a 41-20 campaign in which they were a No. 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Cowboys are ranked 24th in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll and open the 2007 season February 2 against Hofstra.
