January 23, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Penry comes to OSU from Texas A&M, where he served for three years as the development officer for major gifts. During his time in College Station, Penry assisted in the successful completion of the Championship Vision Phase I, a $50-million capital campaign for athletics. Starting in 2005, he was a member of the six-person fundraising team that raised over $35-million for Phase II of the campaign. Penry began his stint at Texas A&M with the 12th Man Foundation as the assistant membership manager for the annual fund, which includes over 23,000 members.
Penry began his career in intercollegiate athletics as a member of the LSU Sports Marketing team in 2002 and received his master's degree from the Baton Rouge campus during this time. He received his bachelor's degree from LSU-Shreveport, where he earned two varsity baseball letters and served as student body president.
The POSSE is the OSU Athletic Department's primary fund-raising group. Funds raised by the POSSE support over 450 Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes through scholarships (including tuition, fees, room, board and books) on an annual basis. Donations to the POSSE also supplement general operating costs, maintenance and upkeep of facilities and budget support for individual sports.
With OSU Athletics relying primarily on revenue from donations, donor seating and ticket sales to meet budget needs, the POSSE is the lifeblood of the program.
