Preseason Accolades Continue For Cowboy Baseball
January 17, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
Having already been ranked in several national preseason polls, OSU garnered its highest ranking yet from Rivals.com, which selected the Cowboys 15th. Rivals.com also selected a pair of Cowboys to its first-team All-American squad as senior second baseman Tyler Mach and junior outfielder Corey Brown earned that distinction.
Coach Frank Anderson's squad also drew more praise recently from Baseball America. The magazine, which ranked OSU No. 22 in its preseason poll, has named several Cowboy newcomers to a select group of players. Third baseman Matt Mangini is ranked 2007's top transfer, while pitcher Martin Beno is 13th on the list. Mangini spent the last two seasons at North Carolina State, while Beno starred at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College last season.
Baseball America also chose the freshman duo of Dylan Brown and Andrew Oliver to have an immediate impact on the Cowboys this season. Brown, an outfielder, is listed as the 10th-best incoming freshman of 2007, while Oliver is a southpaw who was chosen as the No. 23 freshman in the '07 class.
Oklahoma State, which finished with a 41-20 record last season, opens the 2007 season Feb. 2 against Hofstra.
