Fenimore Elected Into Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame
January 16, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Joining Fenimore as part of the 2007 induction class will be Southern California wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, Texas A&M linebacker Dat Nguyen, former Notre Dame head coach Ara Parseghian, Texas offensive lineman Jerry Sisemore and long-time Cotton Bowl photographer Jim ”Brad” Bradley.
The class will be officially inducted in April.
Fenimore is one of the greatest players in Oklahoma A&M/Oklahoma State football history. He led the A&M squad to a 34-0 win over TCU in the 1945 Cotton Bowl. In that game, he rushed for two scores on runs of one and seven yards, and was 6-of-12 passing for 137 yards. He helped A&M outgain the Frogs, 494- 105. He was also a standout on the defensive side of the ball.
Fenimore, known as the “Blond Bomber”, was the first two-time All-American in Oklahoma State history. During the 1945 season, he led the nation in total offense and rushing and was seventh in punting and No. 13 in scoring. His 18 career interceptions are still best all-time at Oklahoma State and he is still fifth all- time in total offense with 4,627 total yards.
“It is an honor and a suprise,” Fenimore said. “At my age, it's a real treasure. As the case with most every award, this is an honor for the team. “
One year after the Cotton Bowl win, Fenimore led Oklahoma A&M to a Sugar Bowl victory over St. Mary's, 33-13, by personally generating 206 yards of total offense.
