Cowboys Advance past Northern Iowa, 29-5

Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked wrestling team had little trouble getting by host Northern Iowa, 29-5, in the first round of the NWCA Cliff Keen National Duals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The Cowboys gave up just two takedowns during the dual as OSU jumped out to a big lead scoring bonus points in the first three matches.

Tyler Shinn got the Cowboys started as he scored four takedowns and recorded a major decision. Shinn wrestled with padding to protect his broken hand he suffered at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

Coleman Scott followed at 133 and promptly got a takedown and pinned Kyle Anson in 1:43. Nathan Morgan then took the mat at 141 against 13^th-ranked C.J. Ettelson. Morgan got a late takedown and took Ettelson to his back for five points to score a major decision, 13-2.

The Panthers forced overtime in three of the remaining seven matches, but OSU won two of those matches. Jack Jensen and Jared Rosholt both scored takedowns to win in sudden victory.

Jared Shelton scored a pair of takedowns and cruised to a decision over Andrew Anderson, ranked No. 18 nationally, at 197 pounds.

Johny Hendricks also picked up a decision over fifth-ranked Nick Baima, and Brandon Mason extended his winning streak to eight matches with a decision at 174.

Oklahoma State will wrestle fifth-seeded Iowa at 1 p.m. The Hawkeyes were 41-4 winners over UC-Davis in their first round match. The dual will be broadcast live on 780 AM.
