Cowgirls Take Care of Cal Poly, 1-0
September 08, 2006 | Cowgirl Soccer
Strawser, a native of Bixby, Okla., took a pass from Adriane Radtke and buried a shot by Cal Poly goalkeeper Alli Tramel for her third goal of the season.
OSU stayed unbeaten on the season and improved to 4-0-1, while Cal Poly fell to 2-3. The win extended OSU's non-conference unbeaten streak to 43 games.
“It was a great team effort,” co-head coach Colin Carmichael said. “We defended really well as a team. Cal Poly played a good possession game, but we did a good job of limiting its opportunities when it got in danger areas.”
“I am very proud of our team for going on the road and picking up the win,” co-head coach Karen Hancock said. “It is important to win games away from home.”
The Cowgirls dominated the first half of play as they out shot the Mustangs 7-2. OSU earned three corner kicks to just two for Cal Poly.
The Cowgirls continued to pepper the Cal Poly goal in the second half. Jesyca Rosholt took four shots in the second half, three of which were saved by Tramel. Tramel kept the Mustangs in the game as she save six OSU shots in the period.
OSU was even more dominant in the second half out shooting the Mustangs 9-1. Cal Poly made it interesting in the closing minutes earning three corner kicks, but Oklahoma State's defense did not let Cal Poly get any good looks at the goal.
Strawser and Rosholt combined to take 10 of OSU's 16 shots, but neither could find the net following Strawser's early goal. The defense made it hold up as Jeanne Rankin recorded two saves and picked up her second shutout of the season.
Oklahoma State will wrap up the tournament against host Loyola Marymount on Sunday with kickoff set for 1 p.m. (CST).
