• Freshman Perrish Cox' 96-yard kickoff return on the first play of the game was the first time OSU has returned a kickoff for a touchdown since Chris Massey did it on Oct. 13, 2001.
• Cox' kickoff return also marked the first time since 1987 that the Cowboys have returned the season-opening kickoff for a score. Barry Sanders achieved that feat against Tulsa on Sept. 5 with a 100-yard return.
• Twelve true freshman Cowboys made their debuts on Saturday. The list included Chris Collins, Perrish Cox, Keith Toston, Artrell Woods, Donnell Williams, Patrick Lavine, Al'Darius Thompson, Russell Okung, Terrance Anderson, Orie Lemon, Jonathan Lewis and Derek Burton.
• Three Cowboy newcomers scored touchdowns in their first game at OSU, and that trio of Perrish Cox, Adarius Bowman and Keith Toston accounted for OSU's first three touchdowns.
• Mike Hamilton's 155-yard rushing effort marked the fourth time sophomore tailback has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in his career.
• With a three-yard catch in the second quarter, senior wide receiver D'Juan Woods has now caught a pass in 22-straight games.
• Sophomore Jason Ricks' 53-yard field goal was his first since his true freshman campaign in 2004. Ricks redshirted last season with an injury.
• Sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid's four touchdown passes were a career high and also doubled his season total from 2005. As a redshirt freshman last season, Reid tossed two touchdown passes in seven games.
• OSU's 38 first-half points was its most in an opening half since Sept. 20, 2003 at SMU when the Cowboys also totaled 38 points.
• OSU's 52 points was its highest total in a season opener since the Cowboys scored 52 in a 52-20 win over Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 10, 1988.
• Matt Fodge's 73-yard punt in the third quarter was a career long for the sophomore.
