September 19, 2006 | Cowgirl Soccer
Last Week
Oklahoma State went 2-0 last weekend, which included the start of Big 12 play with a victory over Bedlam rival Oklahoma. OSU concluded the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Southern Utah. The Cowgirls currently stand 6-1-1 on the season and lead the Big 12 with a 1-0 mark. Oklahoma opened the scoring in the 11th Bedlam meeting, with a goal in the 43rd minute. It was all Oklahoma State in the second half, however. The Cowgirls out shot the Sooners 9-3 in the second half and earned seven corner kicks to none for OU in the final period. Ashlyn Brantley tied the game in the 54th with a goal off of an assist from Yolanda Odenyo. Just 2-1/2 minutes after the equalizer, Siera Strawser took a shot that was saved, but Brantley was there for the put back to give OSU the lead. The Cowgirls held on for the 2-1 victory. The coaching staff rested some key members of the squad against the Mid-Con's Southern Utah. Adriane Radtke scored less than five minutes into the game and OSU coasted after that. Leah Hope scored just before halftime to give the Cowgirls a two goal cushion. The Cowgirl defense limited SUU to just four shots and the Thunderbirds never mounted a serious threat on the OSU goal.
Brantley has Unforgettable Night
On Friday, Sept. 15, Ashlyn Brantley had a night she would never forget. Scoring two goals to beat your arch rival on any level is something that will stay with you. Brantley did just that against OSU's Bedlam rival Oklahoma. She scored at the 53:02 mark to tie the game. A mere 2-1/2 minutes later, Brantley scored again to give the Cowgirls the lead. That was all the scoring and OSU defeated the rival Sooners thanks to the strong effort by the senior.
