Cowgirls Shoot Down Thunderbirds, 2-0
September 17, 2006 | Cowgirl Soccer
“You always want to score more goals and make the game a little easier,” co-head coach Colin Carmichael said. “The main thing for us was to get the win and come out healthy with the Big 12 starting next weekend. As long as we keep creating I think we will start putting them in the net.”
It was Radtke's first goal of the season as she staked the Cowgirls to the early lead. OSU controlled much of the half out shooting the Thunderbirds 9-2 in the opening period. SUU keeper Holly Davis made three saves to keep the deficit at one until late in the half.
Leah Hope collected a pass from Yolanda Odenyo and fired a shot from the top of the penalty area and snuck it past Davis to give the Cowgirls a two goal advantage heading into halftime.
The Cowgirls came out firing quickly in the second half, but were held scoreless. OSU took 16 shots in the period, but Davis kept the Cowgirls out of the goal and recorded five saves in the half. Davis finished with eight saves for the game.
OSU had several opportunities, earning nine corner kicks for the game, while Southern Utah did not receive any.
Jeanne Rankin earned the win in goal as she made her seventh start. Erin Stigler played the second half as the duo recorded OSU's fourth shutout of the season.
“Going down to Norman and playing Oklahoma in a hostile environment and getting a win was huge,” Carmichael said. “I think we are rolling along and looking forward to playing Kansas and Colorado next weekend.”
Oklahoma State resumes Big 12 action on Friday night when it hosts Kansas at 7 p.m. The Jayhawks are ranked as high as 18th by Soccer America and they are 20th by Soccer Times.
