Jonathan Moore Named Recipient Of The William Campbell Award
August 09, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
Moore rode the momentum of his three consecutive victories to close out the collegiate season into this summer's amateur circuit. The 2006 NCAA champion tied for ninth at the rain-shortened Northeast Amateur with a 36-hole total of 137 before winning the Players Amateur with a 22-under 262 score. The win also earned Moore an exemption for the PGA Tour's Verizon Heritage on April 9-15 at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Moore closed out the trio of events with a 26th-place tie at the Porter Cup after carding a 2-over 282 total.
Established in 2003, the Campbell Award is named in honor of the former USGA President and one of the all-time leading amateur players. Campbell is an eight- time United States Walker Cup team member and former captain.Â
During his outstanding amateur career, Campbell participated in 15 U.S. Opens, 18 Masters and 37 U.S. Amateurs. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1964 and is one of only three individuals to have been president of the USGA and captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.
Previous winners of the award are Toledo's Brad Heaven, Australian Gavin Flint and Georgia Tech's Nicholas Thompson.
