Cowboy Football Battles Heat During Fourth Workout
August 07, 2006 | Cowboy Football
“Earlier this week we talked about if it got up into the mid-100s, we felt like we needed to push practice back,” OSU head coach Mike Gundy said.
Despite the conditions, the Cowboys continued to make progress as they move toward their Sept. 2 season opener against Missouri State in Stillwater.
“When we get in a situation like that we have to take caution with the players. We backed it up an hour and the majority of our practice was in the shade,” Gundy said. “We are trying to be protective, but we are still getting in a lot of work. We do what we can to protect them.”
Gundy was once again impressed with OSU's play on the defensive side of the ball. One day after praising several of the Cowboy newcomers, the second-year head coach complimented the veterans for the efforts on Sunday.
“The defense is way ahead. The defense is doing a great job with more communication and maturity from Donavan Woods and Andre Sexton. Ryan McBean and Chris Collins are doing a great job. Xavier Lawson-Kennedy is showing up and he needs to continue to push through.”
The Cowboys will return to the practice field on Monday evening at 5:45 p.m. before going through their first two-practice session on Tuesday.
