Cowboy Football Wraps Up Busy Saturday With Third Preseason Practice
August 06, 2006 | Cowboy Football
Head coach Mike Gundy's squad began the day with a morning session with the media before taking part in Fan Appreciation Day during the afternoon and wrapping up the day with the evening practice.
Approximately 400 fans took in OSU's three-hour workout that left Gundy impressed with several of the squad's young players.
“It was good work today. I just told the team I wish we had lights out here,” Gundy said. “That is the most fun I have had in six months tonight, watching those guys run around and seeing the speed that we have acquired on defense. Seeing Jacob Lacey making plays at corner and Keith Toston showing up at running back and Bobby Reid making plays.”
Using the team's performance in the early going as an indicator, the second-year head coach also thinks the squad has progressed from last season.
“We still have to go out and play on Saturdays, but we are a better football team,” Gundy said. “We are stressing discipline and playing within yourself. The coaches are doing a good job and the players are buying in.”
“From what I am seeing at an early stage now is more speed on defense. We are trying to get speed out there on defense. Hopefully, it will hold up,” Gundy added.
The Cowboys will return to the practice field on Sunday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.
