Cowboys Wrap Up Day Two Of Preseason Workouts
August 05, 2006 | Cowboy Football
For the second consecutive day, the Cowboys participated in a three-hour practice on the grass practice fields east of the Athletics Center. Second-year head coach Mike Gundy's crew drilled in helmets and shorts in conditions that saw the heat index reach triple digits after a morning rain shower raised the humidity level.
Among the Cowboys strong suits this season will be the defensive line, which is one of the deepest and most experienced positions on the squad and will be bolstered by the return of a a healthy Nathan Peterson.
After battling nagging injuries last season, Peterson is excited to be back at full strength for his junior campaign.
“I went through the whole summer and didn't have to miss a single workout,” Peterson said. “ I went home during May and rested. Then I went through workouts and didn't even notice it and that's when I knew I was back to normal.”
The Tulsa, Okla. native knows that OSU's veteran front will be looked upon to anchor the defense in the early going.
“I think our defensive line provides a lot of leadership for our defense. Everyone knows that in our secondary we have some young guys,” Peterson said. “I think a lot of people are going to be looking at us to make a difference early on.”
The Cowboys have a full slate on Saturday as they will participate in Media Day during the morning before taking part in Fan Appreciation Day from 1-4 p.m. on the concourse level of the Athletics Center. The squad will return to the practice field with an evening workout at 5:45 p.m.
