Cowboys Complete First Day Of Fall Practice

“We had a good day today,” said second-year head coach Mike Gundy. “There's a lot of knowledge that we carried over from the spring. It still felt like the first practice because the freshmen are out there, and they don't know where to go all the time. You tell them in meetings before practice but it doesn't matter — when the whistle blows they all look around at each other.”
Gundy was impressed with several of the incoming Cowboy freshmen, highlighting several rookies in the secondary as making strong first impressions.
“I was excited about some of the young guys on defense in the secondary,” Gundy said. “Perrish Cox showed up and made a few plays, so did Al'Darius Thompson and Terrance Anderson. We're kind of familiar with the older guys but some of the younger guys showed up, which is encouraging.”
Strong play on special teams and glimpses of playmakers on offense also left Gundy feeling happy about the first day of practice.
“I was particularly impressed with our special teams. Our punters and snappers did a great job,” Gundy said. “We looked good on offense. A little rusty at times, but some guys made some good plays.”
Sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid, who secured the starting job in the spring, said he feels much more prepared and comfortable running the Cowboy offense in 2006.
“I have a better understanding of things, what I need to do and what the team needs to do to accomplish a certain play,” Reid said. “It's a lot slower for me. Now I can visualize the play depending on the defense, and it makes things a lot easier for everybody.”
The Cowboys return to the practice field Friday at 4:45 p.m. OSU Fan Appreciation Day is set for Saturday from 1-4 p.m. on the concourse level of the OSU Athletics Center.
