Jonathan Moore made the turn at 1-over after a bogey on his fifth hole, but the 2006 NCAA champion reeled off birdies on four of his next six holes en route to a 1-under 69. Senior-to-be Tyler Leon opened with a 1-over 71 to stand in a tie for 14th in a group that includes his younger brother, Trent, who will be a sophomore for the Cowboys this season. Junior-to-be Pablo Martin also posted a 71 to come in among the 12 players tied at 1-over.
Cowboy assistant coach Alan Bratton, who is coming off a victory at the Oklahoma State Amateur Championship, carded a round of 74 and will enter the second round tied for 67th place.
Zack Robinson, a senior for the Cowboys last spring, carded a 75 to stand in a tie for 76th place, while senior-to-be Ryan Posey posted a 78 to come in tied for 120th place.
