Six Cowboys Complete First Day At U.S. Amateur

Leading the way for the Cowboy contingent was junior Pablo Martin, who finished the day tied for 19th place after posting an even-par 72 at Hazeltine. The Malaga, Spain native opened with 11 consecutive pars before getting to 1-under with four holes to play. Martin rebounded from back-to-back bogeys with a birdie on his 17th hole to get to his total.
Zack Robinson, a senior on OSU's 2006 national championship team, carded a 1-over 72 at the Town Course to stand in a group tied for 46th place. The Ft. Worth, Texas native went out in 1-under after recording a pair of birdies on his front nine before playing the inward nine two strokes over par.
Senior Ryan Posey rebounded from a 40 on his front nine at Hazeltine with a 1-under 35 total on his back nine to finish tied for 86th with his 75. The Dallas, Texas native put together a back nine that included eight pars and one birdie to stay within striking distance of the cut line.
Sophomore Jonathan Moore fired a 1-under 35 on his front nine at Hazeltine after tallying birdies on Nos. 7 and 8. However, the 2006 NCAA medalist was hampered by four consecutive bogeys on the back nine to finish in the group tie for 86th place with his 3-over 75.
Former Cowboy Trip Kuehne came in tied for 114th place after a first-round 76 at Hazeltine, while OSU assistant coach Alan Bratton finished the day tied for 209th place after posting a 7-over 79 at Hazeltine.
The tournament consists of two rounds of stroke play after which the 312-player field will be reduced to 64 for the match play portion of the event, which is set to get underway on Wednesday. All match play rounds will be played at the par-72, 7,473-yard Hazeltine National Golf Club.
