Alan Bratton Qualifies For U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship
August 16, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
The 1-under score was good for a second-place finish behind David Leachman, who posted a 69, and earned the third-year OSU assistant one of four qualifying spots sought by the 67 players in the field.
Bratton regained his amateur status earlier this year and has put together a successful run this summer. In addition to his Mid-Amateur berth, he captured the Oklahoma Amateur Championship in July before qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., later this month.
Started in 1981, the U.S. Mid-Amateur is for amateur golfers of at least 25 years of age and was started to provide a formal national championship for post-college players. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly amateur events.
The U.S. Mid-Amateur will take place Sept. 9-14 at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.
