Cowboys Sluggish After Day Off During Preseason
August 15, 2006 | Cowboy Football
The Cowboys enjoyed nice weather that included a 45-minute delay as head coach Mike Gundy halted practice to take shelter from the lightning. Practice resumed and the Cowboys still got in a 2-1/2 hour session on the grass practice fields.
It was a good day for the defense, but at the same time the offense struggled.
“Defense had a nice practice, but the offense did not practice very well,” Gundy said. “We were sluggish, did not get our motor started. You always worry about that as a coach, giving them a day off and then being able to come out here and be self starters.
“We got a lot of work done, it just was not very good in my opinion. Guys have got to practice better. Get back out here tomorrow and get a couple of practices in and wear them out a little bit.”
The Cowboys will look to reestablish a rhythm during two practice sessions tomorrow as OSU prepares for the season opener against Missouri State on Sept. 2. Quarterback Bobby Reid is coming off of a strong performance in Saturday's scrimmage and will look to get his timing back during Tuesdays final two-a-day.
The Cowboys will conduct two practices for the final time during the preseason with the first session beginning at 10 a.m. followed by an afternoon session beginning at 4:45 p.m. All remaining workouts are closed to public.
