Cowboy Football Completes First Major Scrimmage

Approximately 2,500 fans crammed into the west endzone and lined the north fields as Coach Mike Gundy's squad went injury-free.
“I thought we had a good scrimmage,” Gundy said. “I think we stayed faily healthy. It is always good to have a 100-play scrimmage and stay healthy.”
Sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid completed 11-of-18 passes for 183 yards, including a 45-yard scoring strike to sophomore Ricky Price. Reid finished with three touchdown passes on the day and added a run for a TD.
Price, a Houston, Texas, product, had another reception for 40 yards to lead all receivers. Junior Tommy Devereaux had two catches for 40 yards and a TD while Seth Newton also had two receptions for 35 yards.
A combination of five players shared the running chores. True freshman Keith Toston led the squad with 54 yards on 15 carries, while junior Julius Crosslin finished with eight carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, junior linebacker Rodrick Johnson led all tacklers with eight stops, including six primary tackles. Junior safety Donovan Woods had seven tackles and a 40-yard return after intercepting one of Zac Robinson's passes. Woods also forced a fumble on the goal line.
Several newcomers turned in impressive performances on the defensive side of the football. Linebacker Marcus Brown, a transfer from Air Force, had seven tackles, while true freshman Patrick Lavine had five. All-American wrestler Steve Mocco had five stops playing as a defensive tackle, while true freshman Derek Burton had five stops, including four behind the line of scrimmage.
“There are some young guys who showed up and made some plays,” Gundy said. “We are going to have some young guys show up and compete for us this year. There were also some veteran guys who played better than they did in the spring.”
Oklahoma State will take Sunday off before returning to the practice field on Monday.
