Cowboy Football Prepares for Saturday's Scrimmage
August 13, 2006 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboy football program completed its last open, regular workout of the summer in Stillwater Friday.
The Cowboys practiced for approximately two hours and 15 minutes on the grass practice fields, placing an emphasis on situational drills Friday.
“We did some two minute and overtime work today. We are working on a lot of situations for the team,” said head coach Mike Gundy. “A lot of it is third-and-long situations during the team team drills. We are putting ourselves in tough situations and letting the defense come at us a little bit.”
Overall, Gundy thought it was a solid workout, but he did find a couple of things that need to be worked on.
“The guys moved around good, but we need a little more intensity from the defensive line,” said Gundy. “They jumped offsides and lined up wrong a couple of times. We need to do a better job on that.”
Gundy stressed that penalties are one area the Cowboys must improve on from last season.
“We are working hard as a team to become more disciplined,” said Gundy. “Procedure penalties and offsides are things we can control by staying focused. We are working hard on it.”
Gundy also talked about what fans can expect at tomorrow's scrimmage.
“It will probably end up being 75 plays,” said Gundy. “We are going to put the ball on the one-yard line, and we will also work on red zone plays and goal line situations. It kind of depends on the flow of things. We are also going to put the ball down and play a bunch, but we have to get certain situations covered.”
The Cowboys are scheduled to start scrimmaging at 6 p.m. on the grass practice fields Saturday. It will be the last workout that is open to the fans this season.
