Cowboy Golfers Qualify For U.S. Amateur
July 26, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
Assistant coach Alan Bratton, who won the Oklahoma State Amateur title last week, was crowned as the event's medalist after carding rounds of 68 and 67 for a 5-under total of 135.
Junior-to-be Pablo Martin and Zack Robinson, who was a senior on OSU's national championship team this past year, both posted scores of 67 and 69 and tied Mitch Cohlmia of the University of Tulsa to force a playoff for the final two spots.
The Cowboy duo advanced after both made pars on the first playoff hole, while Cohlmia made bogey.
In addition to the trio that qualified in Tulsa, two more players currently on the OSU roster will take part in the event. Sophomore-to-be Jonathan Moore will be competing after earning his way into the tournament on two counts. Moore earned his exemption by winning the NCAA title and competing in the U.S. Open earlier this summer.
Ryan Posey, who will be a senior during the upcoming season, qualified via his berth in the U.S. Open as well.
The U.S. Amateur will be contested Aug. 21-27 and will take place at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
In the professional ranks last week, a former Cowboy had a strong showing as well. Former All-American Bob May posted a 64 on Sunday to finish one stroke out of the lead and alone in second place at the B.C. Open with an 18-under 270 total. The runner-up finish earned May $324,000 and moved him from 204th to No. 132 on the PGA money list.
