Alan Bratton Wins Oklahoma State Amateur Championship
July 21, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
“I am very grateful to win because I haven't been in a pressure situation in a long time and to know I can still function under pressure is nice,” Bratton said. “You enter tournaments to wins so it feels good to be able to do that.”
“There are a lot of good players that have their names on that trophy so it is great to add my name to the list.”
Bratton began the day with an 8 a.m. semifinal match against Tulsa's Mark Johnson and cruised to a 5 and 4 victory, setting up a championship meeting with Scott Kedy of Ada.
Bratton held a 1-up lead with two holes remaining before Kedy claimed the 17th hole to square the match heading to the 18th. The duo halved the hole before a par by Bratton on the first playoff hole propelled him to victory.
The event was just the second for Bratton since he regained his amateur status at the beginning of the year. He will compete in the U.S. Amateur qualifier on Monday at Tulsa Country Club before taking part in the prestigious Western Amateur next month.
