June 05, 2006 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
OSU will hope to find the success it had last season when it was highlighted by six national qualifiers and four All-Americans.
On Wednesday, sophomore Eva Tomankova will kick things off for OSU in the 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminary run. Tomankova enters the race ranked No. 31 nationally with a time of 10:31 and is coming off a third-place finish at the regional meet.
“It would be a great accomplishment for (Eva) to run a personal record time and to advance to Friday's final race,” director of operations Abraham Ekal said.
Junior Mary Davies, who earned All-American honors last season in the 10,000-meter run, enters Thursday's event with the ninth fastest time of 33:20.
Davies is coming off impressive victories in the 10k, 5k and 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she also was named the Big 12 Outdoor Female Performer of the Year.
The Whangarei, New Zealand product sat out last week's regional championships to focus on the national meet.
Wednesday's event is scheduled to start at 9 p.m., while Thursday's 10k run is set to start at 9:20 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento.
