Cowboy Golfers Have Strong Showing At Northeast Amateur
June 27, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
Originally schedules for 72 holes, the event was shortened to 36 holes at the par-69, 6,688-yard Wannamoisett Country Club due to inclement weather.
Four of the five players that were in the lineup for OSU's national championship run earlier this month. Trent Leon, Tyler Leon, NCAA champion Jonathan Moore and Zack Robinson all competed in the event, while the fifth member of the starting lineup, Pablo Martin, played in the British Amateur Championship last week.
Robinson led the way for the quartet, tying for fourth place with rounds of 72 and 64 for a 2-under 136 total. He finished four shots off the pace of tournament champion Carlton Forrester.
Moore carded rounds of 70 and 67 for a 137 total to finish in a group tied for ninth that included Trent Leon, who posted rounds of 71 and 66.
Tyler Leon tied for 17th place with an even-par 138 score after putting up rounds of 67 and 71. Senior-to-be Ryan Posey carded back-to-back 71s to finish tied for 48th place.
At Royal St. George's Golf Club in England, Martin rebounded from a 79 during the first round of stroke play qualifying with a course-record tying 67 to finish tied for ninth and move on to the match play portion of the tournament.
The Malaga, Spain native won his first two matches, defeating Michael Bush and Gary Boyd before falling in the round of 16 to Jason Palmer.
