Scott Earns National Recognition
June 21, 2006 | Cowboy Wrestling
Scott won six matches on his way to a first place finish at the FILA Junior National Championships in Las Vegas back on April 15. He defeated Indiana's Angel Escobedo, 2-0, 1-0 in the championship.
That result placed Scott in the finals of the FILA Junior World Team Trials where he would face the winner of a challenge tournament. NCAA runner-up Troy Nickerson advanced to meet Scott in a best-of-three series. Scott won the third and decisive match over Nickerson, 1-0, 3-0.
Scott will compete in the FILA World Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala Aug. 29-Sept. 3. He was also named National Wrestler of the Week from June 6-12 by themat.com.
Scott is a two-time All-American at Oklahoma State wrestling at 125 pounds. He took fifth-place at the 2006 NCAA Championships after losing his first match and coming back through the wrestlebacks to help the Cowboys secure their fourth consecutive national title.
