June 16, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
Less than two weeks removed from capturing NCAA medalist honors and leading the Cowboys to their 10th national title, sophomore-to-be Jonathan Moore posted a 7-over 77 to stand in a tie for 90th place. The Vancouver, Wash. native started his day with a double bogey before birdies at Nos. 5 and 7 got him back to even. After making the turn at 3-over, he parred his final five holes of the day to card a 4-over 39 on his closing nine to get to his score.
Of the nine amateurs in the field, Moore currently ranks second behind Billy Horschel, who posted a 75 during his first round.
OSU senior-to-be Ryan Posey will begin play tomorrow tied for 153rd place after a 14-over 84 on Thursday. The Dallas, Texas native posted a 6-over score of 41 on his front nine and a 43 on his inward nine. Posey recorded his lone birdie of the day on No. 13, a 214-yard par 3.
Bo Van Pelt led the way for the trio of former Cowboys in the field, posting a 72 to stand in a tie for 15th place, while Scott Verplank came in tied for 68th place with a 76. Charles Howell III was among those tied for 90th place with his 77.
Moore is set to tee off tomorrow at 2:20 p.m. (EST) and will be paired with Phil Tataurangi and Craig Barlow on the No. 10 tee, while Posey will begin on the No. 1 tee at 8:50 a.m. and will be grouped with Stephen Gangluff and Jason Allred.
