May 29, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
The Cowboys will head to Fayetteville's Baum Stadium, where they will be in a regional with No. 2-seed and tourney host Arkansas, No. 3-seed Oral Roberts and No. 4-seed Princeton. OSU opens play in the double-elimination tournament against Princeton on Friday at 2 p.m.
“It's nice to be rewarded with a No. 1 seed after the hard work we put in and the season we had,” said OSU head coach Frank Anderson. “It's a tough regional with four quality teams, and we're excited to go over there and compete.”
OSU will be making its 35th NCAA Tournament appearance. The 14th-ranked Cowboys are 39-18 overall and finished second in the Big 12 Conference standings during the regular season.
Arkansas brings a 38-19 record into the tournament and finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference standings.
Oral Roberts won its ninth-consecutive Mid-Continent Conference tournament and is 38-14 on the season
Princeton captured its third Ivy League championship in four years and has a 19-24-1 record in 2006.
The Cowboys are 0-3 against the Fayetteville Regional field. They lost to Arkansas, 3-0, in the second game of the season on Feb. 11 at the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala. They also dropped a pair of games to ORU, losing 5-2 to the Golden Eagles in Tulsa and 13-2 in Stillwater.
The winner of the Fayetteville Regional will face the winner of the Clemson Regional in a Super Regional on June 9-12.
OSU's regional appearance will mark its second in three seasons under Anderson. The Cowboys also made the NCAA tourney in 2004, Anderson's first as head coach.
