Cowboys Open Series With 6-4 Win Over Texas Tech

Oklahoma State won its fourth-straight Big 12 Conference game with a 6-4 decision over Texas Tech on Friday night in front of 1,645 fans at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Sophomore right hander Matt Gardner earned his fourth consecutive win on the mound and freshman Jordy Mercer collected his team-leading fourth save as the 13th-ranked Cowboys moved into second place in the Big 12 standings with a 16-9 mark in league play. OSU is 37-15 overall.
OSU took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Deik Scram's two-out single, which scored Keanon Simon.
The Cowboys increased their lead by pushing across runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
In the fourth, Matt Clarkson doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Corey Brown. In the fifth, it was an RBI groundout by Shelby Ford that made the score 3-0, and an RBI single by Simon in the sixth gave OSU a four-run cushion.

But the Cowboys answered with runs in their final two at-bats, with Ford collecting an RBI triple in the seventh and Wright driving in a run in the eighth with a single.
Wright led the OSU offense with a 3-for-3 night, while Clarkson was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Simon added three hits in five at bats as the Cowboys collected 14 hits on the night.
Miles Morgan suffered the loss for Texas Tech, falling to 6-6 on the season after allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
The Cowboys will try and clinch their sixth consecutive conference series win on Saturday at 2 p.m., with Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.
