May 15, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
Oklahoma State completed a three-game sweep of Bedlam rival Oklahoma with a 4-0 win in front of 10,849 fans at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark on Sunday night.
Â
Junior Oliver Odle hurled the 24th-ranked Cowboys' second-straight complete game, and OSU swept the No. 8 Sooners for the first time since 2001 to improve to 36-14 overall and 15-9 in Big 12 Conference play. OSU also moved into third place in the league standings with the win.
Â
Making his first start on the mound since March 31, Odle completed his first-career shutout with four strikeouts and two walks to improve to 4-3 on the season. It was the right hander's second complete game of the season.
Â
OSU got hits from eight different players, with Jordy Mercer and Matt Clarkson each going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Â
The Cowboys took an early lead in the second inning against OU starter P.J. Sandoval. Deik Scram led off the inning with a single and later scored when Ty Wright singled on a hit-and-run play and OU centerfielder Kody Kaiser committed an error.
Â
In the fourth inning, Wright scored on an RBI groundout by Adam Carr to give OSU a 2-0 advantage.
Â
OSU tacked on its final runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Scram collected an RBI by drawing a bases loaded walk in the seventh, and Mercer homered to left field to provide the final 4-0 margin.
Â
The Sooners dropped to 37-16 overall and 15-9 in the Big 12 with the loss. Sandoval fell to 6-3 on the season as he allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
