Cowboy Baseball Continues Strong Performance In The Classroom
May 12, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
With grades finalized for the 2006 spring semester, Cowboy baseball had 24 student-athletes (out of 39) earn a 3.0 or higher G.P.A., which is a record for the program. Last fall, the Cowboys had 18 players earn that distinction.
The Cowboys also posted a record 3.04 overall team G.P.A., topping last semester's 3.01 mark. Four student-athletes were named to the President's Honor Roll (4.0 G.P.A.), and four more earned a spot on the Dean's Honor Roll (3.5-3.99 G.P.A.)
“These guys keep smashing academic records,” said OSU academic advisor Alan Good. “When 61.5 percent of the players on the roster make a 3.0 or above, that's impressive, especially when it's during the season with all the travel and games going on.
“These guys are having a lot of success in the classroom and on the the field, and it's a testament to how hard they work and the hours they put in.”
Those Cowboys named to the President's Honor Roll for the spring semester were junior Ryan Flavell (education), freshman Joe Kent (engineering), junior John Schindler (economics) and junior Jared Swart (physical education). Earning a spot on the Dean's Honor Roll were freshman Jeff Breedlove (secondary education), junior Shelby Ford (education), junior Kyle Hollander (finance) and junior Keanon Simon (physical education).
“Our guys continue to work hard in the classroom, and I'm really impressed with what they've been able to do as student-athletes,“ said OSU head coach Frank Anderson. “They have a lot of demands on them during the season, but our coaching staff really stresses academics and they've taken that to heart and gotten the job done.”
