Cowboy Golfers Earn All-Conference Recognition
May 01, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
A unanimous selection as the league's top player, Martin is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. A semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award, Martin has two victories this season and has finished in the top 10 in each of the squad's nine events thus far while carrying a 70.55 stroke average.
The distinction marks the sixth time in the 10-year history of the conference a Cowboy has been named player of the year. In addition to Martin, Leif Westerberg (1997), Charles Howell (2000), Anders Hultman (2001) and Hunter Mahan (2002, 2003) all received the honor.
A native of Vancouver, Wash., Moore has come on strong during the spring season, posting top-20 showings in each of his last five starts. His run includes back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Hall of Fame Invitational and the Morris Williams Intercollegiate and a fifth-place tie at the Aggie Invitational.
The third Cowboy to be honored as the Big 12's top newcomer, joining Howell (1998) and Martin (2005), Moore is currently second on the squad with a 73.00 stroke average.
Martin, Moore and the rest of the OSU squad will be back in action on May 13-14 at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
