Erzinger Sets Regional Qualifying Mark at Texas Relays
April 07, 2006 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
“It was a good race for (Alison) because she has not been 100 percent early on in the season,” Cowgirl head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “There was a lot of competition in her event, as there were four NCAA finalist from a year ago competing against her.”
Erzinger, who was an NCAA semi-finalist last season, finished 13th out of 53 runners in the event with a time of 59.91.
“Alison is trying to get back on track,” volunteer hurdle coach Jim Bolding said. “After her performance today, I feel that she is moving in the right direction.”
Freshman Deleanor Kirkpatrick had a personal best throw of 177' (53.96-meters) in the hammer to finish 13th. Kirkpatrick came within four inches from qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships.
“Deleanor is so close with her marks,” Sepulveda said. “It was a good mark, but she still has four more chances to set a qualifying mark.”
Day two of the Texas Relays will continue Friday at 12:30 p.m. as it will feature four Cowgirls -- junior Zivile Siksnelyte and sophomore Moira Steyn in long jump, sophomore LaKendra Greathouse in the shot put and junior Stephanie Lovely in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
