The Cowboys cruised to a 17-0 win in the opener before coming back for a 9-2 triumph in the second contest to improve their record to 26-13. UAPB is now 15-27 on the season.
In the opener, OSU reached the 20-hit mark for the fifth time this season, with seven different Cowboys collecting at least two hits. Corey Brown and Tyler Mach each had four RBIs in the rout, while Matt Clarkson was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
The Cowboys erupted for four runs in the second inning and also had big innings in the fifth and sixth frames.
In the second inning, Clarkson drove in the OSU's first run with a single, and Brown followed that with a three-run home run to right field, his seventh round tripper of the season.
OSU added to its lead with five runs in the fifth. After back-to-back singles by Ty Wright and Adam Carr to lead off the inning, Shelby Ford delivered a two-RBI triple into the right-field corner. Jordy Mercer followed with a run-scoring single to give the Cowboys a 7-0 advantage. The final runs of the frame were provided by a two-RBI single by Mach, who finished 3-for-4 in the contest.
In the six-run sixth inning, Ford, Mercer, Brown and Clarkson each had RBIs, and Wright drove in two runs with a double.
Charles Benoit picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound to tie Brae Wright for the team lead in wins. In improving to 5-3, the sophomore southpaw struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work.
In the nightcap, the Cowboys scored in five of the first six innings and got a strong pitching performance from Dusty Barnard.
Barnard, a senior right hander, improved to 2-0 on the season by striking out a career-high seven and allowing just one unearned run on two hits in seven innings of work.
Ty Wright did the majority of the damage offensively for OSU in the second game as he was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Adam Carr also drove in a pair of runs and had two hits in four trips to the plate.
Mach, who hit his team-leading 15th homer of the season in the first game, was 1-for-5 in the nightcap to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
OSU and UAPB will return to the diamond for another doubleheader on Wednesday. The opener is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Reynolds Stadium.
