What is your favorite thing about baseball?
The atmosphere. It's an everyday thing so it's not like you play on Saturday and then wait a week to play again. Also, just the fun we have with the rest of the team.
What is the team chemistry like this year, and how is it different from last year's team?
What's special about it this year is that everybody comes to the field ready to play. They come ready to do what they need to do to help the team get better. They want to play. They want to win. They want to give themselves up for the team.
You weren't heavily recruited out of high school. Does that cause you to play with a chip on your shoulder?
No, not really. I got my opportunity, and that is all you can ask for. I don't even think about it anymore. I just come out here and take it day-by-day.
You played on an NCAA Tournament team two years ago. How does this team compare to that team?
Well, obviously we have along way to go in the season. I think this team has a lot more depth in the bullpen. As far as offense goes, we have speed, we can steal bases and we can move people around. We have really good defense. So when all that comes together I feel pretty confident that we will be up there.
Do you have any superstitions?
Anything that I do on a good day I just try to repeat that, but I don't have any set superstitions that I do. Just whatever happens on a good day.
What CD is in your CD player right now?
Right now, Tony Bennett is in my CD player. I have also been listening to Dean Martin, but the kicker is Earth, Wind and Fire. I have an Earth, Wind and Fire CD that I listen to.
If you could play another sport in college, which sport would you play?
As much as I would love to play football, they are too big for me. I always loved playing basketball in high school and it was always fun. I would have to say basketball especially because we have the best venue for college basketball.
Which coach or teammate would have the best chance on Survivor?
I don't know if we have a coach that could survive. If there was a player that could, I would have to say my roommate, Keanon (Simon) or Justin Colbert. Just living with them, I think they could do it. It doesn't bother them what happens to them, they find a way to get through it.
Who is the most complete baseball player?
Growing up I was a huge Cubs fan so my favorite player was Ryan Sandberg, but as far as complete baseball player I would have to go with someone like Mark Teixeira who can hit, play defense, he can run for you. Alfonso Soriano can do all those things, too.
