Cowboy Football Finishes Day Four of Spring Drills
March 28, 2006 | Cowboy Football
The Cowboys practiced in full pads for just over 2 1/2 hours on the grass practice fields. It was the first time this spring the weather allowed the Cowboys to conduct drills on the natural playing surface of the practice fields.
After a scrimmage on Friday that featured several big plays by the offense, head coach Mike Gundy was impressed with the way the defense responded on Monday.
“It was a much better day for the defense,” said Gundy. “I was glad to see they practiced with more intensity today. During the scrimmage, the offense came out and hit them with some big plays early. Nobody stepped up and showed leadership on that side of the ball. Today they played with intensity and stopped the run. I was pleased to see that.”
Senior-to-be Xavier Lawson-Kennedy, who will look to be an anchor on the defensive line next season, said leadership and intensity is one thing that has been stressed this spring.
“We want to become more intense and become a unit,” said Lawson-Kennedy. “We do not need one guy that shines above everybody else. We need to be able to become one on game day.”
Newcomer Adarius Bowman, a wide receiver transfer from North Carolina, also said team unity is one of the major things that comes from spring drills.
“This team can get better everyday,” said Bowman. “We need to come together. We need to keep working towards next season. I think we can have a good year. We have a lot of playmakers on this team.”
The Cowboys will continue spring drills on Wednesday on the grass practice fields at 3 p.m.
Spring workouts will finish with the annual Spring Game, scheduled for 5 p.m., on Saturday, April 22 at Boone Pickens Stadium.
