Birk Sets NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark in Long Jump

On Friday, OSU kicked things off by hosting the hammer throw in

“All of the long practices throughout the years have paid off for Cody,” Cowgirl head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “Winning the competition is a good start to her season.”
OSU then turned in impressive marks in the triple jump from Steyn and freshman Mateja Posavec. The duo finished with jumps of 39'3.25” (11.97-meters) and 39'2.25” (11.94-meters), respectively.
In the discus, the young talent of freshman Merrit Dietz and sophomore LaKendra Greathouse posted top five finishes. Dietz's' third-place finish came off a throw of 134'10” (41.09-meters), while Greathouse finished fifth with a mark of 132'6” (40.38-meters).
Greathouse then had a solid fourth-place performance in the shot put as she threw for 45'2.50” (13.78-meters).
Freshman Baiba Blumbaha had a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.92.
OSU's 4x100 relay team, which consisted of seniors Melissa Ndubilo, Sarah Walker and Alison Erzinger and junior Lauren McKee, claimed a second-place finishing time of 47.50.
The Cowgirls ran Erzinger, Ndubilo, Blumbaha, along with freshmen Kalea Tam in the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome ran a fourth-place time of 3:56.84.
In the 200-meter dash, Erzinger finished third with a time of 25.10.
Competing unattached was OSU assistant coach Zivile Pukstiene (triple-jump) and volunteer assistant coach Mindi Pukstas (3,000-meter run). The married couple both won in their respected events.
OSU will continue outdoor action Friday, March 29, as they travel its distance runners to the Stanford Invitational in
