Cowboys Advance Five Wrestlers to Semifinals

Oklahoma State sent five wrestlers to the semifinals and distanced itself from second-place Iowa with 76 team points compared to the Hawkeyes' 47.5 points, at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.

Nathan Morgan became OSU's first semi-finalist scoring a couple of early takedowns before defeating Central Michigan's Jason Borelli, 8-4.

Zack Esposito is making a case for Outstanding Wrestler honors earning his third fall of the tournament. Esposito put sixth-seeded Jon Masa of Hofstra on his back and pinned him in 4:41.

Johny Hendricks advanced after defeating unseeded Daniel Thompson of The Citadel. Thompson pinned Lehigh's Troy Letters in the second round, but Hendricks proved to be too strong as he won by a decision, 9-6. Hendricks will face undefeated Muzaffar Abdurakmanov in the semifinals.

Fourth-seeded Jake Rosholt was the only wrestler seeded in the top four to advance to the semifinals at 197. Rosholt scored the only takedown in his match with fifth-seeded Joel Flaggert of Oklahoma and won 4-0.

Steve Mocco was the fifth Cowboy to advance after he defeated Oklahoma's seventh-seeded Jake Hager.

Iowa's Mark Perry, a Stillwater native, sent Brandon Mason into the consolation bracket with a second period fall in 4:28. Mason will face 12^th-seeded Matthew Herrington of Pennsylvania with the winner earning All-America honors.

Coleman Scott continues to make his way through the consolation bracket winning two more matches. Scott recorded a technical fall over Obenson Blanc of Lock Haven before defeating Michael Silengo of Pennsylvania, 9-2. Scott will face Nebraska's Paul Donahoe with the winner advancing to the placing matches.

The semifinals begin tonight at 6 p.m. and will be carried live by Hot 93.7 FM or on television on ESPNU.
